About Treatment
Do I need medication, therapy, or both?+
It depends on your unique situation. Some conditions respond well to therapy alone; others benefit from medication; many do best with both. We'll discuss all options and make a collaborative decision. Medication isn't for everyone, and I won't prescribe unnecessarily.
How long will treatment take?+
There's no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people see improvement within weeks; others benefit from longer-term care. We set goals together and regularly reassess. Mental health care is a journey, not a quick fix.
What about controlled substances?+
I prescribe all classes of psychiatric medication as clinically appropriate, including controlled substances when indicated. Every prescription decision involves thorough evaluation, informed consent, and ongoing monitoring.
What is pharmacogenetic testing?+
A simple genetic test using the TEMPUS platform that shows how your body metabolizes medications. This helps us choose the right medication and dosage from the start, reducing trial-and-error.
About Appointments
What should I bring to my first visit?+
Insurance card, list of current medications (including supplements), any prior psychiatric records or evaluations, and questions you'd like to discuss. Paperwork must be submitted 48 hours before intake.
Do you offer telehealth?+
Yes, via Doxy.Me after your initial in-person appointment, if clinically appropriate. Telehealth provides flexibility while maintaining quality care.
How often will I have appointments?+
Initial follow-ups are typically every 2-4 weeks. Once stable, appointments may space to every 1-3 months. Frequency is personalized to your needs.
About Insurance & Cost
What insurance do you accept?+
Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Magellan, Medicare, OptumHealth/UBH, Oscar, and UMR. Self-pay patients can request Superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.
What are self-pay rates?+
Initial psychiatric evaluation (~60 minutes): $300. Follow-up appointments (20-30 minutes): $160. Payment due at time of visit. We accept Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, Discover, HSA, cash, and check.
